about jarrod

               Known for his “sensitive, beautifully phrased” performances, and with a voice that is “spine-tingling” and “pure and sweet at every volume” (Reading Eagle), Tenor Jarrod Miller offers a unique blend of style, performance, and leadership to the musical world.  His endeavors include opera, musical theatre, and extensive solo work, as well as teaching/directing with local musical groups and operating a private voice studio.

               Jarrod had his professional debut with the Berks Opera Company as Eisenstein in Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, which he reprised in August 2019.  His favorite role with the company was Don Ramiro in Rossini’s La Cenerentola, where he was described as having “the ability to handle the bel canto arias with aplomb”.

               Jarrod was last seen with the Reading Symphony Orchestra as Spoletta in their production of Puccini’s Tosca.  Other Opera credits include Otello (cover) in Verdi’s Otello, Rodolfo in Puccini’s La Boheme, Martin in Copland’s The Tenderland, and Monostatos in Mozart’s die Zauberflote, all with various regional opera companies.

               A lover of musical theater, Jarrod is active in the community as a performer and director.  In fall 2018 he was Joseph as well as the music director in Reading Civic Theatre’s production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. His favorite roles include Nicely-Nicely Johnson in Guys and Dolls, Maximilian Detwiler in the Sound of Music, and Miles Gloriosus in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.  He has been the music director with multiple theaters, with his favorite credits being Annie, Peter Pan, and Little Shop of Horrors.

               Jarrod has extensive solo experience around the east coast of the United States, culminating in being invited to sing with The Thirteen, an all-star professional choir based in Washington, D.C.  He has sung the tenor arias in Handel’s Messiah with the Delaware Choral Society, Reading Symphony Orchestra, and Reading Choral Society.  He was also the tenor soloist in Orff’s Carmina Burana and the Agnus Dei from Britten’s War Requiem with The Reading Choral Society.   He has been soloist in numerous works with Vox Philia Chamber Choir, including Bach’s Magnificat and Ein Feste Burg, as well as an American Premiere of Will Todd’s Te Deum.

               Originally from Reading, PA, Jarrod is highly in-demand in the Reading area, both as a soloist and choral leader.  He has been a section leader with the Reading Choral Society since 2016, and spent 4 years as the section leader with Christ Episcopal Church in Reading.  He has been asked to sing in many concerts and benefits that celebrate the arts in the Reading area, including the Berks Youth Chorus Pops Concert, Boy Scouts of America benefit dinners, Berks Opera Company educational events, and even organizing a recital for the opening of the newly renovated George Baer Chapel in downtown Reading.

​

              

Jarrod received his formal training beginning at age 8, when he joined the Berks Youth Chorus.  He spent 10 years in the program, learning and developing his pedagogy by age 18.  After High School, he attended Mansfield University of Pennsylvania to study Voice Performance and a minor in Business.  While in college, Jarrod was chapter president/music director of Phi Mu Alpha Fraternity of America, 3 time Tenor Section leader of the international champion Mansfield University Concert Choir, and Chorus master of the Mansfield University Opera Theater. He graduated Cum Laude in 2013 and moved back home to Reading to start his career.  He has earned numerous awards throughout his life, including Eagle Scout, National honor Society, David Dick Memorial Award for Leadership, and NATS Allegheny Chapter Auditions Winner in 2012.  His instructors include Tamara Black of Berks Opera, and Dr. Todd Ranney of Mansfield University.  He has participated in masterclasses lead by Eric Weimer of the Chicago Lyric Opera, Internationally acclaimed teacher Ellen Rissinger, Dr. Robert Sataloff, and world-wide vocal coach and pianist David Lutz.

Jarrod currently operates a voice studio in Reading, and is the Warehouse Operations Manager for Weinstein Supply of Reading.  He is an active member of the Hawk Mountain Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Vox Philia Chamber Choir, Reading Civic Theater, and the West Lawn United Methodist Church.  He and his wife, Katelyn, are proud to be able to perform together and to be active in the arts as a family. They also recently welcomed their first child, Elaina Mae, into the world.
